Flat Rock Kitchen
THE STORY
This home in Flat Rock underwent an impressive transformation by merging the traditional formal dining area with the kitchen, creating an inviting and spacious environment.
The clients rarely used the formal dining room, and the kitchen layout did not suit their needs. By removing the separating wall, we optimized the space for modern living. We cleverly relocated heating ducts from the removed wall, ensuring both comfort and style. A shorter window in the former dining room was installed to accommodate a beautifully positioned sink.
The centerpiece of this transformation is a large island, featuring a drawer microwave neatly tucked away in a base cabinet, ideal for cooking and entertaining. An oversized wooden hood above the range is an elegant focal point and perfectly complements the island cabinet finish. The expansive pantry with roll-out shelves provides ample storage. The two-tone cabinet colors—sleek painted coconut for the perimeter and warm Maple Buckskin wood for the island—create a modern and airy atmosphere.
This collaborative effort between the designer, skilled installers, and homeowners resulted in a space that meets their lifestyle needs and serves as a stunning design showcase.

THE STORY
This ranch home in Wyandotte was transformed by combining several small, separate living areas into one expansive open space that caters to modern living.
By removing the wall between the kitchen and living area, we created an open and inviting kitchen environment. The former kitchen window was reimagined as an open pass-through, not only allowing natural light to come in but also providing a clear line of sight into the sunroom. The centerpiece of this renovation is a large, oversized island, featuring a convenient prep sink.
The homeowners were delighted with the addition of a dedicated coffee bar, designed to showcase their impressive array of coffee machines, as well as a separate entertainment bar area for their favorite cocktail mixers. A striking new electric fireplace, framed by a beautiful natural stone surround and a sleek modern wood mantle, adds warmth and sophistication.
Our talented finish carpenter and designer collaborated closely to create a custom walnut veneer hood that elegantly complements the range and enhances the transition into the sunroom. We opted for luxury laminate vinyl tile flooring throughout the space, which replicates the appearance of ceramic tile. Initially, the homeowners were torn between two distinct paint colors and a charming wood-look cabinet. With the designer's guidance, they boldly embraced all three choices. The base cabinets showcase a modern wood laminate in a warm gunstock color, while the upper cabinets have a bright white finish, creating an airy feel. The island stands out as a striking focal point in a beautiful naval blue.
This remarkable renovation has redefined the ranch home, transforming it into an exquisite mid-century modern masterpiece that perfectly balances style and functionality.
